Random Thoughts

UFO's continue to occasionally make the news.  If there is a developed group of extraterrestrials, with the ability to travel over light year's worth of distances, enter and escape atmospheres without creating an observable event, and the technology to know that life exists here on earth, why would they choose to come here?  We can't possibly have anything to offer them.

It seems our cell phone world has radically changed the definition of emergency.  At least, the concept of urgency has become more ubiquitous.

I don't understand wasps.  They seem to have no purpose other than to create messes on eves and overhangs and to terrorize humans and animals.

Is it reaching the too nerdy to passively walk by a computer display at a mall kiosk, see something unusual or unfamiliar on a Windows desktop, and wonder how they did that?

Random Thoughts

The word pothole automatically leads us to a substandard or damaged road surface, not a leak in a cooking vessel.  It could simply be the desirable drain in a clay pot for plants.  Ancient Greeks, with French leanings, would have pronounced it poe-tho-lay, a mythical god of the house plant, from which pothos was derived.

Are there varying degrees of random?

Judgement

We are instructed not to judge.  I believe that means we are not allowed to decide on our own who is or is not worthy of receiving God's grace of salvation through Jesus.  I don't believe it in any way means that we cannot use our judgement and knowledge to decide who and what is right and wrong, based on what we have been taught through the Bible.

Once Again ...

The first day of school, across the street, appears to have been survived by most.  New white tennis shoes are no longer in style, but oversized shoes of any color still set the pace.  Neon pink is apparently high style for young ladies this fall.  One little kindergarten boy was just bawling, as his mom carried him, and his big sis and dad tried to encourage him on.  Cars started arriving at about 7:40 a.m., and the process was winding down by 8:25 a.m.  It takes a little longer these first few days, since the parents can go all the way to the classrooms.  By next week, the whole process will take less than 20 minutes.

Pensive

Sitting on the back porch, hoping for rain, but running sprinklers, squirrels pitching pine cones out of the pine trees, listening to Levin gripe about Obama, and the news that a snitch traitor wants to live out his 35 years in prison as a woman.  Makes a person really go internal to try to figure what this is really all about.

Short Term Memory

One of the difficulties with trying to keep a blog up to date is logistical.  Ideas that would be good to develop and prepare for the blog typically arise at times when a computer is not nearby, and often at times when it's unsafe to even take the time to write down key words about the thought.  Then, by the time a suitable keyboard is available, the idea is gone.

Precision

I've never really had the dexterity to do fine woodwork, and I'm beginning to understand at least one contribution to the lack of precision. It's the width of the pencil line. I typically try to measure and mark cut lines with the center of the line being the precise measurement. When I cut, I follow the outer edge of the line. Something to work on, I guess.

One Can Hope

That there is a context within which this makes some sort of sense. This is at an elementary school, so I guess capitalization rules will Be covered sometime in the Next six weeks.

Good v Bad

Good is good. Working toward something good is good, often achieves good, but might suffer some bad along the way. Avoiding good is stupid. Working against good is evil (or maybe just also stupid) and often turns out bad, unless someone else is working for good so well that bad gets defeated. If you aren't working for something good, good is very unlikely to result.

Bad is bad. Working toward something bad is bad, and can generally only result in worse. Working against bad can often avoid bad or prevent bad, which can be good or maybe just less bad. Bad can and often does happen if there isn't some amount of effort to avoid it.

So, generally speaking: Good takes work. Bad happens.
